Eye exams are a necessary part of life. Everyone needs to preferably have eye exams annually, not just to help correct any vision problems that arise but to make sure that you don’t have any diseases, such as macular degeneration.
The most important eye exams should be given to children, though! In fact, early detection and treatment of eye problems can be the key to your child’s success in learning and in life. Also, the longer a vision problem goes untreated, the more a child’s brain won’t be able to learn and develop normally; they will need to focus on bypassing any vision problems.
ElegantEyes can be a boon for your children’s eyesight! They offer all types of eye exams for children and they offer one of the largest selections of children’s vision correction items available. Some of the tests include:
- Tests to see if the child can see clearly;
- Depth perception;
- The width of their field of vision;
- The ability to see various colors; and
- How sturdy their eyes are.
Protecting your child’s vision is very important. You can’t just rely on yearly exams from your child’s school. These are simple screenings that don’t detect any potentially harmful problems such as eye coordination and farsightedness.
The American Optometric Association gives the shocking figure that over 57% of children don’t receive their first eye exam before age 5! In fact, children should have their first one at 6 months old, then at age 3 and then at least every year or every other year after the child begins school. Children learn how to see, just like they learn how to walk or talk, therefore, good vision doesn’t just happen!
Parents need to look for signs to determine if a child needs to see an eye doctor. These include:
- The child holds objects close to be able to see them;
- Has trouble or avoids close work;
- Squints, rubs eyes or tearing occurs frequently;
- Tilts or turns the head to use one eye or they cover one eye; and
- Has problems reading.
If your child has any of these problems, this may cause children to be “problem learners.” So, getting your child’s vision checked regularly will catch any of these problems before they even start!
School should be the most important thing in a child’s life. That way, they can learn all the basics: Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. You may be thinking, though, that what if they’re made fun of in school if they’re wearing glasses. No parent desires their child to be hurt!
There are various options available according to the maturity of the child but, no matter what, a child’s vision is very important! Even if they’re made fun of, later they will actually thank you by having better grades and show more responsibility.
ElegantEyes can help explain this to you and your child. If your child does have a vision problem, can you imagine what it will be like the first time they can REALLY see the world?
